Kagen Watson Portfolio
I love to travel the world, capturing its innate beauty through photography and writing. All of this is in the effort that we appreciate the world’s natural beauty and learn more about the planet we live on.
About Me:
My name is Kagen Watson. I was born and raised on my family's ranch in Mayhill, New Mexico. We homesteaded our land in 1884 and have kept it as a cow/calf operation ever since.
I graduated from Cloudcroft High School in 2020 and attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, and eventually fell in love with Agricultural Communications with a minor in Journalism. I expect to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Communications in December of 2024.
I love to travel. Recently, I have fallen in love with Alaska and have vacationed in the state for at least a week for the past few years. In the summer of 2024, I landed a job on the Lady Kodiak, a fishing vessel in Bristol Bay, and spent most of my time off the coast of Ugashik, Alaska. Since then, I have worked on several other fishing boats, and have decided to make a career out of working for Silver Bay Seafoods during the Bristol Bay salmon run.
With the growing demand for people to understand where their food comes from and the ethical/environmental impact of their grocery list, I saw an opportunity to utilize the skills, talents, and background I have been blessed with to create a career in agricultural journalism and communication. Since then, I have learned that there is a larger concern for the world: producing enough food for nine billion people, and for us as humans to do it ethically and sustainably. This goal is at the heart of my ambition in my career field and as a person on this planet.
